Luxury Lighting: Creating Lighting for Different Moods

As the economy seemingly improves, many people are looking for ways to add a touch of luxury to their existing spaces. While investing in light fixtures may not seem like a way to do this, learning to create lighting for different moods can make your home feel more elegant, more cozy and most importantly: more luxurious.

Tips for creating Lighting for Different Moods

Many people are unaware of what the true effects of light from their light fixtures has on them; though most tend to be aware that sunshine is good for them and dark, cloudy days can make it a bit difficult to get things done.

That being said, it is important to have the right type of lighting for every need in your home. after all, having the right light is a luxury that many people can afford but don’t know they even need to begin with.

To start, it may be wise to invest in a dimmer switch for various rooms in the home. This includes the kitchen, dining room, living room and bedroom. if desired, a dimmer switch may also be used in other spaces, such as an office, guest room, den, game room, home theater room or even the bathroom. Just be sure that whatever room the dimmer switch is installed in features light fixtures that are usable with a dimmer switch; as not all light fixtures are capable with this.

Secondly, if there are not a variety of light fixtures available, it can be difficult to change the lighting in order to meet a certain mood. for example, in a living room, it may be wise to have a floor lamp, table lamps and a few additional sources of light; such as an accent light, wall sconces or even track lights, so that you can adjust the lighting as needed.

This concept should be applied to every room, as you simply cannot create a different lighting for a different mood if you do not have multiple light fixtures for the room in question.

Finally, when looking to create a lighting mood for any given space in your home, you may want to pay attention to the color temperature of a light bulb. Certain light bulbs can give off an unflattering light and this can be contradictory to what you are trying to achieve.

Though compact fluorescent bulbs are growing in popularity, not all of these bulbs give off a flattering light. however, that doesn’t mean you can’t find CFL bulbs with the right color temperature. look for bulbs that state they are full spectrum or color balanced, as these will produce a more desirable light. Just be sure that whatever light bulbs you opt to invest in, that they will work with your light fixtures.

Remember, lighting is not an exact science. It is entirely subjective. as you age, you require more light to do various tasks, such as reading, than you might when you were 10 years younger. therefore, it’s best to create a lighting scheme that works best for your needs, rather than what is recommended or standard.
